After more than a decade of public service on the Mount Vernon City Council, Mark Hulst is running for Skagit County Auditor to bring steady leadership, responsible oversight, and trusted election administration to the office.

Born and raised in Skagit County, Mark has spent his life invested in the strength and future of the community he calls home. His approach to public service is grounded in practical decision-making, accountability, and a focus on results.

Mark served 12 years on the Mount Vernon City Council, where he worked to strengthen oversight, improve city operations, and support policies that benefit residents and local businesses. He chaired both the Public Safety Committee and the Finance Committee, focusing on responsible budgeting, operational oversight, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively.

His service also includes regional leadership. Mark served on the Mount Vernon Planning Commission, helping guide long-term growth and development, and later represented the city on the Skagit Transit Board of Directors, helping oversee countywide transportation policy and operations.

He currently serves on the board of Volunteers of America Western Washington, supporting programs that provide housing and essential services to individuals and families across the region.

In addition to his public service, Mark is a business owner with experience managing operations, budgets, and teams—skills directly aligned with the responsibilities of the Auditor’s Office.

Mark is running for Skagit County Auditor as an independent because he believes the office should rise above partisanship. The Auditor’s Office oversees elections, public records, and financial accountability—responsibilities that require professionalism, transparency, and public trust.

His goal is to ensure the office operates efficiently, transparently, and responsibly—serving the public while safeguarding taxpayer resources.
